Upon their arrival, Kate discovers that Lem is controlled by his domineering father (David Torrence), who rejects her as a gold-digger from before the moment he meets her. Lem and Kate's relationship further crumbles when a band of rowdy laborers (led by Richard Alexander) arrive to harvest the crop, and begin flirting with the worldly woman whom fate has dropped onto the joyless farm. An approaching hailstorm pushes the workers to their physical limits, and puts an emotional strain on the Tustine family that seems destined to break them apart or, possibly, bind them together.

Orville "Gabby" Denton drifts from job to job, gambling away most of his earnings, but is loved by his sister Nancy Evans and nephew Buddy and gets work as a mechanic at his brother-in-law Beef Evans' Metropolitan Garage. Unknown to Gabby, the entire garage is run by Jenkins, whose specialty is stolen cars. Beef, who is otherwise honest, works for Jenkins, but does not realize that the true head man is "The Dummy," a deaf-mute who pretends to be Jenkins' butler. One day, Gabby is sent to pick up Silver, Jenkins's girl friend, whose car has broken down. Both Gabby and Silver are wisecrackers and take to each other immediately, after which Silver dumps Jenkins. When The Dummy gets an order for a high-priced sedan, he sends his thugs to steal it. During the race to evade the police, the driver hits Buddy, who is driving across the street in his miniature toy car. The driver continues on to the garage, where the stolen car is immediately repainted. Buddy survives his surgery. A friend of Gabby who saw the accident describes the car, and Gabby realizes this is the same car that roared into the garage to the paint shop. He investigates and discovers a piece of Buddy's little car in the wheel of the stolen car. When he tells Beef of his discovery, Beef gets drunk and confronts Jenkins and The Dummy. They kill Beef, then try to make his death look accidental. Bill Jones, a photographer friend of Gabby, provides Gabby with a photograph of Beef behind the wheel of a car before the accident, which proves Beef was dead before he crashed. Silver helps Gabby in his fight against Jenkins. When the lights go out, The Dummy and Jenkins escape in a car, but collide with another car coming up the ramp of the garage and plunge down an elevator shaft. With the theft ring cracked, Silver and Gabby marry.

"The Fighting 69th" is a First World War regiment of mostly New York-Irish soldiers. Amongst a cocky crew, perhaps the cockiest is Jerry Plunkett, a scrappy fellow who looks out only for himself. The officers and non-coms of the regiment do their best to instill discipline in Plunkett, and the chaplain, Father Duffy, tries to make Plunkett see the greater good, all to no avail. Behind the lines or in the trenches, Plunkett acts selfishly and cowardly, eventually costing the lives of many of his fellow soldiers. A final act of cowardice leads to terrible consequences, but Plunkett sees in them a chance to redeem himself...if only he can.—Jim Beaver

Edward Beale is in charge of finding a shorter trail across the American desert and to also test the practicality of using camels in the west in this 3-D western. (An actual test once conducted in the Big Bend area of Texas.) Clint MacDoanld, a bank robber one jump ahead of a posse, joins the caravan by posing as a doctor. His sweetheart, Lilly, also comes along and signs on. There is a whole lot of footage of the grueling trek across the desert, but it begins to move when mule-skinner Matt Carroll becomes aware of MacDonald's true profession and he wants the gold from the bank robbery. The Apaches have shied away from attacking the train, because of their fear of the camels, but a camel dies and the jig is up as they lose their fear and here they come.—Les Adams

The harsh Rolph Bainter kills the greedy man and the soldiers flee in his wagon driven by Major Stewart. When they meet a posse chasing them, Stewart gives wrong information to misguide the group, but they have an accident with the wagon and lose the horses. They decide to stop a stagecoach and force the driver to transport them, but the posse returns and they are trapped in the station with the passenger.
