Muthu, a youngster from a small town near Thoothukudi, comes from struggles and perils at
every turn in his life. As a boy who harvests thorns in the dry, desolate, desert lands, he is
accustomed to danger as a daily reality. One fateful day, the scorching lands threaten to end his
life as the very thorns he harvests catch fire, resulting in a raging inferno. Rueing the dangers
owing to his violent tendencies, Muthu's mother sends him to Mumbai, to work at a Parotta
Kadai.
Flustered and overwhelmed by the metropolis, he gets accustomed to his job and finds his way
up through the ranks at the shop, all whilst dealing with the strange ruffians he now lives with.
His journey introduces him to a breath of fresh air in the form of a woman, Paavai - saleswoman
at a local clothes store, strong, bold, independent, witty and to this youngster from a small town
in Tamil Nadu, almost daunting.
Muthu's journey takes a drastic turn when he learns that he is deeply entwined in a vicious
network of blood, crime and killing. What the young simpleton thought was a mere Parotta shop,
reveals itself in its most treacherous form - a front from all sorts of crime, a den for contract
killers.
Arriving as a worker in search of a better life and some money to send back home to family,
Muthu reluctantly embraces the dark side. Caught in quicksand, amidst a turf war involving a
warring faction, Muthu struggles to come to terms with his newfound profession.
Floating like driftwood in water, Muthu finds himself in an inescapable limbo of crime and
violence. And just when he disavows the bloody path, Muthu learns that his journey thus far was
just the beginning.

In Paris, Alexandre, an unemployed young man with memories of the May 1968 events in France, attempts to persuade his former love, Gilberte, to marry him. Gilberte opts to instead marry another man. Alexandre is involved with a live-in girlfriend called Marie, and is interested in films such as The Working Class Goes to Heaven. One day, after an unsuccessful reconciliation with Gilberte at the highly popular Les Deux Magots café, he meets Veronika, a Polish French twenty-something nurse. In the midst of the sexual revolution, Veronika is highly promiscuous, and begins to make advances on Alexandre. During the summer of 1972, Alexandre and Marie are nude in bed in their apartment when Veronika visits. Marie lets her in and Veronika insults both of them, but acknowledges she is not pure herself. The three begin a ménage à trois and sleep in the same bed, with Veronika assuring Alexandre she and Marie both love him, and telling him to be more happy with his situation and life. Although Marie affirms her indifference to Alexandre's affairs, she quickly changes her mind when she sees how close he becomes to Veronika. This leads to a growing estrangement between her and Alexandre. As the three sit together, Veronika attempts to reassure Marie about her looks and body. Tearfully, Veronika speaks about how she believes no women are truly whores, and how love is meaningless unless it produces a child.

Jack Kelley volunteered to serve in Vietnam. As a U.S. Army captain, he routinely led his company of 140 men on patrols in the jungles near Biên Hòa. On June 29, 1966, ill-conceived orders came down from higher command that Capt. Kelley was to spread his platoons 1,000 meters apart in order to cover more area when looking for the Vietcong.During the patrol, the 3rd platoon stumbled upon an embedded Vietcong main force battalion. Outnumbered nearly 10-to-1, the platoon was savagely attacked. The triple-canopy jungle was dense and muddy, impeding the possibility of rescue.A squad sergeant, who took over the platoon after its leader was wounded and incapacitated, would ultimate earn the Medal of Honor for actions above and beyond the call of duty.The battle wasn't well known, like Khe Sanh or the Tet Offensive. It was a firefight on a Wednesday morning in Vietnam; however it was an important part of American history that could have easily been forgotten. For this group of survivors, it made an impact that would shape the rest of their lives.After Vietnam, the survivors go their separate ways. Slowly they reunite over the years, finding ways to cope with PTSD and their past, finding healing in the bonds of brotherhood.The film is a journey to understand what the filmmaker's father and seven survivors went through in 1966 and still go through today. Some had volunteered for the army as teenagers. Others were drafted. Some went back to Vietnam years later in hopes of finding closure and peace.

Pinky, a light-skinned black woman, returns to her grandmother's house in the South after graduating from a Northern nursing school. Pinky tells her grandmother that she has been "passing" for white at school in the North. In addition, Pinky has fallen in love with a young white doctor, Dr. Thomas Adams, who knows nothing about her black heritage. Pinky says that she will return to the North, but Granny Johnson convinces her to stay and treat an ailing white woman, Miss Em. Meanwhile, Dr. Canady, a black physician from another part of the state, visits Pinky and asks her to train some African American students, but she declines. Pinky nurses Miss Em but is resentful because she feels that she is doing the same thing her grandmother did. Pinky and Miss Em slowly develop a mutual respect for each other. Mrs. Em leaves Pinky her property when she dies, but relatives of the deceased woman contest the new will in court. To raise money for the court fees, Pinky washes clothes by hand with her grandmother. The court rules in Pinky's favor and she keeps the land. Tom wants her to resume her life as a white woman and to marry him, but she refuses. Pinky decides to use the house and land for Miss Em's Clinic and Nursery School.—Broncine G. Carter
