After the loss of their eldest son, Caleb, to the war in Afghanistan, the Peterson family (the husband Spencer Peterson (Leland Orser), wife and their children Luke (Brendan Meyer) and Anna (Maika Monroe)) are visited by David Collins (Dan Stevens), who claims to be a former soldier and Caleb's best friend, and he is there to help Caleb take care of the family. David claims that he and Caleb trained and fought together. He says that he was with Caleb when he died, and Caleb had asked him to check on his family. David even identifies himself in one of Caleb's Afghanistan pictures in the house.
David says that he has recently been discharged from the military due to an injury, for which he spent several months in the hospital.
David plans to stay at a motel nearby. David is polite, warm and friendly toward the family, and Mrs. Laura Peterson (Sheila Kelley) offers to let him stay in her house, as long as he needs to.Anna works at a late-night diner & has trouble with harassing customers. David hears of Mr. Peterson's troubles at work and sees Luke return home with a black eye, caused by a gang of jock bullies in school.
Spencer is no happy that Laura allowed David to stay in their home as war veterans are often victims of PTSD and can show unpredictable behavior. David helps Luke with his mathematics homework.
The next day, with Luke's help, David follows the bullying jock gang that attacked Luke to a bar and humiliates them in a confrontation (The bullies were there with their girls. David sends the guys Cosmopolitans, and the girls a "B**w Job shot") which erupts into a fight that injures all the bullies. He then uses his knowledge of the law to convince the bartender not to tell anyone, as the bartender could lose his license for serving liquor to minors.David then goes to a party with a reluctant Anna (as Laura forced her to take David with her), at which he saves her friend Kristen (Tabatha Shaun) from her ex-boyfriend who was trying to force himself upon Kristen. Kristen ends up having sex with David. David also inquiries about where to buy guns from Anna's friend Craig (Joel David Moore).
Anna says that her boyfriend Zeke doesn't even have a job, and no plans for the future, while she is saving money for college. David says that Anna is the kind of girl that soldiers go to war for. On their way home, Anna offers to make David a mix CD.David teaches Luke some self-defense moves and gives him his butterfly knife. He buys the guns from Craig and his friend, then kills them both and takes all the weapons, including two grenades.
Anna sees David talking to somebody on Luke's phone in a really animated manner. An increasingly suspicious Anna calls the military base to ask about David. The call alerts a private corporation headed by Major Carver (Lance Reddick), who assembles a special forces team and heads to Anna's house.
Anna is told that David died a week ago. Anna then learns that Craig was killed, and her boyfriend Zeke (Chase Williamson) has been blamed for it (it was David who killed Craig, when he shot Craig after taking the guns that Craig brought to sell to David). The gun that killed Craig was found in Zeke's room.
It is revealed that Mr. Peterson's boss Alan died in an accident (it looked like he and his girlfriend committed suicide), giving him the promotion he always wanted. Anna checks Luke's phone to research the numbers David has called on his phone.Anna shares her concerns with her parents, who refuse to believe her. Spencer anyways never liked Anna dating Zeke and says that Craig was perhaps dealing drugs anyways and so had this coming to him regardless. David says that he has no ID as he was in the special forces where he was given a whole new identity to work undercover.
Anna tells Luke that David called a doctor from his phone. But the doctor had already lost his license 2 years ago. She wants Luke to find out anything he can about David.At school, one of the bullies' assaults Luke again, and he retaliates, injuring the bully. After they are both sent to the principal's office, David arrives and blackmails the principal to give Luke an after-school detention with threats of lawsuit if the principal expels him.Luke tells David of Anna's suspicions. Luke says that he knows David is not really David (as the real David Collins is indeed dead. The military hospital where David said he was discharged from, had a fire due to some oxygen tanks. The real David Collins (along with 20 other people) was supposed to have been killed in the fire).
Luke says that he knows that David is also calling a plastic surgeon from Luke's phone who is perhaps helping this guy to change appearance & even fingerprints, but David convinces him to not investigate the matter any further.While David helps Mrs. Peterson with the laundry, Major Carver's team attack the house. David deftly kills all except Carver. Deciding his cover has been blown David kills Mrs. Peterson. While driving away, he sees Mr. Peterson and kills him as well. David is injured by Carver's bullets during the getaway.Carver picks up Anna from the diner and informs her of her parents' death. He reveals that David is a former test subject for a military health program. He was "programmed" to kill, but the experiment went wrong, and David started killing everyone who knew his identity.
He set fire to the test facility & left bodies behind with no identification to confuse the investigators into believing that he was dead.David kills Kristen destroys the restaurant she works at, then heads for the school to kill Luke. Carver and Anna head for the school, and enter a haunted house set up for the Halloween dance. David announces his presence by playing Anna's mix CD, then kills Luke's principal and Carver. Anna shoots David with Carver's gun, but David stabs her in the leg and attempts to choke her. Luke stabs David with his own butterfly knife. As he seemingly dies, David tells Luke that he's "proud of him".Sitting in an ambulance, Anna and Luke overhear the firefighters talking. They found two charred corpses with no teeth. Anna then sees David exiting the building, posing as a firefighter.

In 2009 director Alex Gibney set out to film The Road Back, a documentary on cyclist Lance Armstrong's comeback year after a four-year retirement from the sport. Three years later, on October 2012, a doping investigation led to his lifetime ban from competition and the stripping of his seven Tour De France titles, and the documentary was shelved. On January 14, 2013, three hours after his appearance on Oprah, Armstrong went back to Gibney to set the record straight about his career.
Amrstrong was diagnosed with cancer which forced him to retire from professional cycling. Prior to that he had won the Tour De France 7 times & had been subject to doping allegations throughout his career. By 2012 the doping charges appeared with regularity in mainstream media & the charges were impossible for Lance to refute. Several of his teammates testified against him & said they saw him taking drugs. The UCI bands him from cycling in Oct 2012 & strips him of his titles. This leads to the Oprah interview in Jan 2013. Lance admits to doping & taking performance enhancing drugs in each of his 7 titles & admits to using his celebrity status to cover it all up. He also says that he regrets coming back to the sport in 2009, which eventually led to his incarceration.The cycling governing body UCI had always maintained that Lance had cheated. In fact a French article titles "The Armstrong Lie" talked about his urine samples from his first Tour De France win in 1999 containing EPO (a banned performance enhancer). The UCI was willing to admit Lance into the Tour De France in 2009. Armstrong had escaped a huge doping crackdown in 2006 due to his retirement in 2005. The crackdown implicated 58 cyclists, including each of the cyclists who shared the podium with Armstrong from 1999 to 2005.Lance was diagnosed with testicular cancer before 1999, which had spread considerably by then. He underwent a experimental procedure in UCLA which removed his testicle, involved brain surgery & brutal chemotherapy. Lance survived despite bad odds. Lance was a rich US cyclist by then (been born to a poor receptionist mother & having never met his father). He was a dominant competitor in US day endurance races. After he survived the cancer he decided to win the Tour De France to show everyone that he could still dominate.His win in 1999 turned heads since Armstrong was not known as a strong cyclist on mountains & yet here he was, a cancer survivor, going at greater speed & power than any of the cyclists before him. A cortisone drug showed up in Armstrong's urine sample in 1999 & he was asked to provide a reason by UCI. Lance's team scours the internet & finds a commercial brand that uses that cortisone as a rash cream & confirms that as the reason of its use.Michele Ferrari was Lance's team doctor & was notorious for using drugs to enhance the performance of athletes. Ferrari knew Lance from 1995 & after he survived cancer, Ferrari knew Lance had lost a lot of muscle. So he got Lance to shift to lower gears in the hills & pedal faster, which shifted the load from the muscles to the heart. He then introduced drugs to boost oxygen levels in the blood, so that the heart & lungs could sustain themselves longer. Ferrari also had insiders in UCI's drug testing labs, which helped him control the drug levels to below detection. Ferrari was convicted of sports fraud in 2004, which led to Lance publicly disowning him.Lance says in 2013 that EPO doping was prevalent in Europe in the 80's & 90's & he had adopt it in 1995 to stay competitive. EPO was not detectable in urine tests in the 1990's which made it easier for everyone to use it. when EPO testing finally caught up, Ferrari went to an older trick of blood transfusions (taking blood out before the race, & pumping it back in just prior to the race to boost red blood cell count with effects same as EPO & impossible to detect).IN 2008 Lance decides to make a clean comeback & to win the Tour De France to prove his critics that his 7 titles were legit. One of his former team mates, who was convicted of doping in 2006, wants to join Lance's team but is refused as they want to portray an image of a "clean team". This former team mates knew all the details of Lance's drug use & eventually led to Lance's downfall. Lance participates in the Italian race in 2009, 2 months prior to the Tour De France & cracks on the hills. He is tested continuously for drugs during the days leading up to the Tour & tests negative. Lance trains in the Colorado mountains for the race, but critics allege that he was storing blood for transfusion.As the Tour De France gets underway, Lance is at 10th position after stage 1, 22 seconds behind team mate Alberto Contador, who was not on talking terms with Lance. But by stage 2, he moved up to 2nd place. The movie digresses to a former Lance team mate Frankie who is a TV reporter & the only US one that Lance would talk to in 2009. IN 2006, Frankie & his wife had testified against Lance saying that he admitted to taking EPO. Lance denies & Frankie & his wife are immediately outcast from the cycling community of Lance's supporters. This makes Frankie's wife Betsy, obsessed with exposing the truth on Lance. She goes public on Lance's doping allegations & slowly gets support from Lance's former team mates who support her story. Lance's legal team responded with a series of lawsuits against all critics which the defendants could not afford financially. Critics also allege that UCI's president Verburgen was Lance's friend & warned Lance whenever his doping levels came close to the questionable limits. Lance admits that everyone was making money & hence it was in everyone's interest to protect Lance who was the best thing to happen to cycling in a long time. By stage 15 in 2009, Lance was 42 seconds behind Contrador who had the yellow jersey. Despite his best attempts Lance finishes 3rd, while Contrador wins. Lance feels that the fact that he raced clean in 2009 vindicates his previous victories. But a 2013 report by UCI raises doubts on Lance using blood transfusions in 2009.But what the 2009 podium did was bring all the critics out who participated & testified against Lance in a federal investigation. They are were motivated to set the record straight that a clean 2009 race didn't mean that the earlier races were dope free. The lie became impossible to defend & led to the Oprah interview in 2013. Lance was sued by the US Postal service (his sponsor in 1999 & 2000) for $ 100 M & banned for all sport for lifetime, governed by the World Anti doping agency.

She feels something big is going down as her sensors have measured 19 M1 quakes in 72 hrs. She lives with her husband Hank (Lane Townsend) and stepdaughter Ali (Grace Van Dien).Molly is a professor & she theorizes that her sensors allow her to predict micro quakes, which will then allow her to predict major quakes. Her students, specifically Nick (Jason Woods) don't believe her as she had predicted a quake in 2008, & she was wrong. Molly is convinced that her prediction model is flawless this time around. Her sensors predict a mild earthquake, and she is proven right when the earthquake arrives, but just a few seconds late.Her data then shows that the same day the whole Cal coastline will be hit by a series of 10.0 quakes. Molly tries to convince Ali & Hank to leave LA asap. Hank agrees, but Ali just sees this as a cheap ploy to keep her away from her boyfriend. Molly decides to rescue Ali, while Hank promises to be at the roof of Ali's hotel in his charter helicopter to rescue them both.
Molly tries her colleagues at CalTech to announce a Level 4 evacuation, but they refuse to do so, not believing her theory. Nick offers to help Molly get to Ali & rescue her. Ali gets stuck in a hotel (where she is a receptionist), elevator at the next aftershock.The phone networks are down & the entire California state is rammed by a series of M4/M5 quakes, which pose challenges for Molly & Nick to get downtown to Ali.
Molly's colleagues at Caltech finally match the actual to Molly's predictive data & see that there is a perfect match. Molly data predicts a M12 quake by the same night. Caltech gets the Govt to issue an evacuation order, which means all freeways going out of downtown are packed, making it more difficult for Nick & Molly to enter downtown.On the other side, Hank's helicopter runs out of gas, & is then struck down by a plane with panicked folks trying to leave LA. His charter customers pay for another helicopter, but insist that Hank rescues their family first, before rescuing his.Meanwhile Ali manages to get out of the elevator and starts helping old folks get out of the hotel. Molly & Nick's car is stolen by a desperate mother, trying to get her daughter out of LA. Since LA is under curfew, with orders to not let anyone enter, Molly & Nick use the subway system to try to get to Ali. They finally reach Ali & try to convince everyone to head to roof of the hotel to wait for Hank, even when the national guard has orders to take everyone to the bomb shelter.As everyone rushes to the roof, Hank reaches just in time as LA goes to pieces in the aftermath of the M12 quake.

A soldier is being tortured by English speaking who demand details of his unit and mission.Mickey (Tom Hughes) and JJ (George Russo) meet and ride a train to Llandovery, Wales. The landscape is bleak and snowy. An attractive woman gives them directions, they get off at a small town and walk half a mile to the camp gates. JJ says his dad was in the SAS. They find out the directions were bad and have to call a cab, they are miles from their destination. The two go to a nearby pub. The woman is there and Mickey introduces himself. Things get tense and quiet, Mickey decides to leave with JJ.The next day (and everyday) at 4:30 they awaken and start training, there are five groups of 40 candidates, the subtitles show they only have two chances to make it. The folks from the pub are the SAS directing staff. Staff Sgt Carter (Noel Clarke) tells them it will be tough and starts them off running a road up into the hills. Mickey reveals he is currently an army cook, the others laugh at him.Then they start running/walking with heavy packs, Sgt Carter tells they are building strength and stamina. The numbers whittle down.They learn hand to hand combat. Carter shows how easy it is to evade a larger man and the woman from the train and pub, Capt. Dawn Canterbury, (Alex Reid), easily puts down a large candidate Chris (Josh Meyers). She says their technique is the best close combat fighting method in the world.They shoot guns, climb trees and practice fighting. Mickey uses a boxing stance and KOs a large fellow trainee, Canterbury notices and smiles.Capt Canterbury sees him leaving the shower and is friendly.An important test is a 40 mile hike with 55 lb packs and rifles in 18 hours, with 2 rendez-vous points. Mickey, JJ and Chris set off. They make the first RV in time, the DI sends them to the next. Very tired they struggle to make the second. Now the third leg, the three help each other and make it with a second to spare.Mickey has flashbacks and nightmares about an airborne parachuting incident. JJ notices and tries to find out what is happening.At night slavic voices discuss explosives over a bright city skyline.Carter now says the final test, the escape and evasion will happen, they will be let out with only an old WW2 overcoat, not to go near buildings, roads or paths or else they will be ``binned``. Mickey and JJ pair up and head off. They set a fire and camp for the night, eating a rabbit. Mickey admits his nightmares are from when he was in the `Paras`. An accident killed a man he tried to save, he stopped jumping and remustered as a cook,now he wants to make ``the SASs`` as they are the best. Later they are caught, Mickey is hung up by his wrists in a warehouse.He is questioned by an attractive blonde (Miranda Raison) who asks him to sign a sheet. He refuses and she insults him and his mother. He is stripped and ridiculed by the woman. Mickey is strung up again. Tired, blindfolded, his captors make loud noises to keep him awake. A long drawn out period with further questioning as the captors try to break his will, Mickey continues to refuse to answer questions, even though faced with dire threats and verbal abuse.Finally he is taken outside, Carter is waiting with a rifle, and...tells him he has passed.More training, a Chinook helicopter carries a squad. They have to jump and land within 10 metres of a target. Mickey freezes at the door until Carter pushed him out. JJ lands and takes off his pack, Mickey lands shortly after, happy. Canterbury is there in jeans and being beaten up, she gets the upper hand and shoots her assailant, then joins Carter. The squad looks for WMD. One SAS is shot as they push the enemy across the warehouse. JJ sees a enemy attacking their rear, he tackles the man but is killed by a suicide bomb.Carter takes Mickey with only 9mm automatics to enter an office area, both are attacked by large men. The leader, Petrovic has a bomb and runs away followed by Mickey. Carter struggles with his man but eventually subdues the bear-like Bosnian. In the yard Mickey fights hand to hand with Petrovic, knocks him out and secures the bomb.Freeze frame!
