In the art department of a large department store, the statue of the famed Anatolian Venus comes to life and falls in love with Eddie Hatch, a window dresser. Just before the unveiling of the prized statue, Eddie takes "Venus" to the model-display house in the store, where the store's owner finds her. Since the death of their father and mother, Ambar and Dika move to a nursing home owned by their parents' best friend and their son, Agus. There are three people in the nursing home of Masa Toea: Grandma Ani, Grandpa Farid, and Oma Ida. The three are taken care of by Rina, a nurse who is also Agus's girlfriend. Not long after Ambar and Dika's move, Oma Ida's grandson, Arthur, comes to celebrate Eid. Ambar, who has the ability to see mystical things, accidentally gets a vision from the past: Ivanna, a Dutch woman, was tortured by Japanese soldiers which resulted in losing her head. A series of mystical events begin to haunt Ambar and all the residents of the nursing home, especially after they find a headless statue in the basement along with a vinyl record containing a scary song. On the day of Eid, things got even more tense when the residents of the orphanage found that Granny Ani has died without a head. Everyone panicky, especially when one by one the mystery of Ivanna's revenge is revealed. With the safety of all the residents of the orphanage now in danger, Ambar is required to finish Ivanna's revenge, before the spirit takes their lives.

Secret agent Victor buries his lover and colleague in the garden of his stately home in Ireland. He is visibly distressed and rather than joining the other mourners inside, he walks down the driveway and disappears.He retires to the Caribbean and runs a hotel with a nightclub. An old flame, Vivian, arrives with a dangerous criminal Blake. Victor's staff make discrete inquiries and discover that Blake is part of a secret society of war criminals, and plans to sell the formula of a deadly toxin to another criminal. Vivian finds the formula, Victor's staff copy it, but when the night club singer Maddie sees Victor making out with Vivian, she flies off in a jealous rage and tells Blake. While Victor dispatches Blake's henchman with a single powerful right hook, he's unwilling to play games when Blake tries to rile him during a card game.Throughout the film we see flashbacks to the operation that went wrong. Victor's former lover was captured, tied to a stake and burned. Although Victor burst into the camp and killed the gang members, he was too late to save his lover who was screaming as the flames engulfed her. Victor shot her to end her pain.Vivian is held hostage, and when one of Victor's staff goes to investigate, he is killed. Having overcome three armed men out of shot, Victor arrives at the harbor where Vivian is being held and trades the deadly formula for her freedom. Along with another old colleague who works at the hotel, Victor faces down Blake and his accomplices. "Shall we dance?" he asks, before a brief fire fight which kills the bad guys and leaves Victor and his colleague with only minor wounds.The formula handed over turns out to have been compromised, with the real one safely transported to his old agency in London.The action switches back to Ireland and a taxi drops off Vivian at Victor's stately home.

The "pieds-noir" (black-feet) were Algerians of French heritage who were forced to return to France in 1962, when Algeria became independent. In the first part of this film, adapted from a novel by Daniel Saint-Hamon, the Narbonis run a little grocery in Algeria and keep their noses out of politics entirely. They are content to mind their own business, in the hopes that others will be equally sensible. Thus, they are bewildered when, in 1962, they are forced to leave what has by now become their native land for the strange country of France. In the second half of the film, their adjustment to life in France is aided by the same stick-to-business attitudes which earlier gave them difficulty. Nonetheless, they experience a number of setbacks, as when a slick Parisian (Michel Auclair) tries to talk them into going into business with him.

Thirty-seven-year-old Ricardo Trogi narrates the story of a specific time from his childhood about which he still obsesses, in a time that changed his childhood. The year was 1981, when he, then eleven years old, was just starting grade 6. He was obsessed with material possessions, and as he felt his working class parents didn't buy those things for him he wanted so dearly, his most prized possession was the Consumers Distributing catalog from which he made his list of items he wanted, long at the top of the list a $400 calculator watch. These possessions he felt would impress the world. He largely dismissed his waitress mother Claudette, but he admired his father Benito. Although he at the time didn't know what his father did for a living, Ricardo believed he was smart enough to be a lawyer if he had the means to go to college, that belief largely by the stories Benito told of growing up during WWII in Italy. In 1981, the family, which included his adolescent sister Nadia, moved to the suburbs of Quebec City, into a house and neighborhood of a higher class than before. As such, Ricardo felt even more pressure to have those material possessions to keep up with his new classmates. Those possessions at the top of the list changed: a Sony Walkman, the new toy that no one yet had except the boy whose father worked for Sony; and a red K-Way jacket. The latter item was so he could befriend a group of three other boys who all wore such jackets. This desire was despite one of those boys, Jérôme, constantly making fun of his name. That year was also his first crush, on the "brains" of the class, Anne Tremblay, who didn't give him the time of day despite he believing he was doing all the right things under the circumstances, such as having a perfectly straight part down the middle of his hair as was the style of the day. To impress Anne and the group of three boys, Ricardo started to tell lies - both small white lies as well as big bold faced lies - to be what and who he thought they would like. But it was two individual incidents - one with each of his mother and father - that year, the outcomes of which which changed his perspective of life, and resulted in him finding out that Anne was not quite the goddess he had quietly placed on a pedestal.—Huggo
