A group of children is having fun sledding down a hill. Then the moving van comes and Bobby is sad. When Bobby and his family leave for good, Jess is very sad. She won't even come out of her room on another day when Derek comes over wanting to sled.Jess' parents must do something. So they call Aunt Millie. When told she has a special visitor, Jess is so happy until she realizes it is not Bobby. Aunt Millie offers to cheer Jess up by telling her a story.Katie is about 10, like Jess. Her brothers Jack and Joe pick on her, and that's just what they are doing when the family photo is taken. So Katie looks miserable. When cars and trucks appear later, they are from the 50s.Katie enjoys skating on a local pond. Olympic medal winner Otto Brewer is impressed with her ability but he keeps criticizing her skates. Otto offers to train Katie for competition. Her father can't afford to pay him but Otto says he didn't ask to be paid. Soon, Katie receives a pair of yellow skates that everyone makes fun of, calling them "banana skates", but she loves them.Otto trains Katie and eventually she is ready for an exhibition. Jack and Joe don't want to go, but they are reminded the family attends hockey games. There doesn't seem to be an audience other than the family and Otto.Katie's father has worried the lumber mill where he works will lay him off. He gets the bad news, and there is no hope of finding another job in a town where that is the only industry. So the family must move.Jess is upset and says Aunt Millie was supposed to cheer her up. Aunt Miliie promises things will get better and continues with the story.At the North Pole, Santa'a Village is "in a tizzy", as Aunt Millie describes it. It's actually quite a sizable town, inhabited by elves with some really large and elegant buildings that look like Europe. Archimedes, who wears dark clothes that make him look like he belongs on a playing card, angrily walks down a long hallway, criticizing everyone as he goes, then he walks into Santa's office. Santa doesn't look the way Americans traditionally expect, with long gray hair and a long gray beard, and one must look closely to even see the color red in the pattern of the clothes he wears. Even then, it is a dark red.Archimedes says Blitzen and Delphi have given birth. And it's not what they were hoping for. Not only is the reindeer female, meaning she can't succeed Blitzen as one of Santa's reindeer, but she looks strange. Archimedes comments on all the problems that have to be dealt with, including a blizzard. Santa decides to name the reindeer Blizzard.Katie wishes she could go skating again, so when she sees girls going into the Port Credit Memorial Arena, she does too. While Katie has made a friend (who doesn't have any lines), other girls make fun of her. In the arena, girls are skating and Miss Ward is in charge, and it is clear they are preparing for a competition.One day there is a knock at the door. It is Alexandra, with the sad news her father's health had been bad for years and now, he wanted Katie to have his gold medal.Katie tries to get the other girls to let her skate. Erin is the worst of the bullies, angry at Katie for distracting her and making her fall. She and the others tell Katie this is a private club and she shouldn't snoop. Katie is determined and she brings those yellow skates, with the expected results, but when she skates, Miss Ward is so impressed she will find a way for Katie to compete.Blizzard is older and playing with the other reindeer, including Donner Jr., also known as DJ. Santa's reindeer are training. The others don't want Blizzard to play with them until she learns she can fly. This is the first of three special reindeer gifts, but only a few reindeer ever receive all three. Aphrodite is annoyed by Blizzard's positive attitude. Blizzard gets in trouble for flying at night.Then Blizzard discovers her second gift. While grounded (literally) she wishes she could be invisible. It happens, and she sneaks out. Archimedes is criticizing Jeremy for not doing a good enough job shoveling snow. Blizzard bumps Archimedes and he doesn't know what happened. After Archimedes leaves, Blizzard reveals her secret to Jeremy, and Jeremy wants her to take him flying, so he does.Katie's brothers are playing "keep away" with her precious music box, and it breaks. Katie cries. Blizzard discovers her third gift, the ability to see what humans are experiencing even if she is not near them.Eventually, Blizzard travels to where Katie lives. Katie sees her outside and screams. Her parents think she is just having a nightmare.Later, Blizzard visits again. This is against the rules. She takes Katie to her old pond and shows Blizzard what skating is and how much it means to her.When the time comes for the competition to see which two girls will compete for a championship, Katie discovers ahead of time that something is wrong with her skates. Blizzard, on another visit, takes Katie to the North Pole, which is breaking yet another rule. Jeremy helps her find a new pair of skates, and another rule is broken because those skates were intended for a specific person.Blizzard returns Katie, and she and Erin both compete. Erin is pretty good, and good enough to qualify, but Katie is excellent. Even Erin applauds. Afterward, Erin's father tells Erin she needs to get better or else. She is pathetic, he says. Erin runs away and no one knows where she is. Blizzard is aware of Erin's situation and comes to help. She and Katie find Erin has fallen in a pond where the ice was not thick enough, and they rescue her. Erin's father is just grateful she is all right, and Erin and Katie become friends and Erin apologizes for what she did to the skates.The skates! Blizzard is in real trouble now. Aphrodite, who is very good about following rules, has told Archimedes everything and now Blizzard must appear before a council of elders who will determine if she should be banished.DJ takes Jeremy to Katie, who hands over the skates but believes she must plead Blizzard's case, so DJ leaves Jeremy behind and takes Katie to the North Pole.In a large room, numerous elves are in the audience, wearing red, green or purple. Archimedes reads the charges and Santa asks Blizzard to explain. Santa says in any society there must be rules, and they must be followed. Before any ruling is made, Katie shows up (with the skates), which is of course against the rules, but Santa is willing to listen. Katie explains why Blizzard did what she did, and says Blizzard expected nothing but friendship and never asked for anything. Because Blizzard's motives were pure, Santa is willing to give Blizzard a second chance and insists that she follow the rules from now on, but tells Katie they will never see each other again.Jess is so sad to learn this, but then she receives a special gift from Aunt Millie--Otto's gold medal.The next time Derek comes over, Jess goes out with him.

Largely directly through current day interviews with the subject at age eighty-seven, a profile of Rita Moreno is presented, she who in many respects outwardly epitomizes the American dream in being a handful of EGOTs (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony winner) and thus successful, and achieving that dream as a somewhat visible "immigrant" to the US (not technically so in being a Puerto Rican, which is part of the US) from humble beginnings. She dispels many of those views in a discussion of her career and her life. Beyond the want to be a movie star and being a proverbial triple threat (actor, singer, dancer) in the entertainment business, she talks about the difficulties she faced: being subjected to the proverbial casting couch and being sexually assaulted above and beyond by those in authority; being typecast in pretty, immigrant roles which required her solely to look beautiful and speak in nondescript accents, even after her Oscar win; the broadening of her career to do the work that was of interest as opposed to that may have been high profile; and the resulting view of her own non-self-worth in how she was viewed especially as a Latina in the US. She further discusses how that view of herself led to a Catch-22 in relationships, getting into them in her own negative view of herself, and they in turn exacerbating that view. Arguably the two most high profile are the long term abusive one with Marlon Brando, and the forty-five year marriage to Leonard Gordon until his death. Her activism is also discussed which is an outcome of her life, it largely in areas of women and minority rights.—Huggo

An unseen older woman tells the story of her father, Elmer Elevator (Jacob Tremblay), when he was a kid. He and his mother Dela (Golshifteh Farahani) owned a candy shop in a small town, but were soon forced to close down and move away when the people of the town moved away. They move to a faraway city where they plan to open a new shop, but they eventually lose all the money they save up while getting by. Dela struggles to find work in the city and is barely able to afford her weekly rent payments to Mrs. McClaren (Rita Moreno).Elmer soon befriends a cat (Whoopi Goldberg) and eventually gets the idea to panhandle the money needed for the store, only for his mother to tell him that it is a lost cause. Angered, Elmer runs to the docks to be alone. The Cat comes to him and begins speaking to him, much to his shock. She tells him that on an island, Wild Island, beyond the city lies a dragon that can probably help him. Elmer takes the task and is transported to the island thanks to a bubbly whale named Soda (Judy Greer). Once they make it to Wild Island, Soda explains that a gorilla named Saiwa (Ian McShane) is using the dragon to keep the island from sinking, but it remains ineffective. The Island continues to sink and needs more and more frequent effort from Boris to pull it back up from the ocean.Elmer frees the dragon, a goof ball named Boris (Gaten Matarazzo), and they go on an adventure in search of a tortoise named Aratuah to find out how Boris can keep the island from sinking for the next century. Boris explains that his kind has been saving the island as long as anyone can remember, and after he succeeds, he will be an "After Dragon". Dragons have been coming to wild island forever as a rite of passage. when Dragons are 10 yrs old (100 in human yrs), they come to the island and save it from sinking (coz the island sinks every 100 yrs), and this turns them into a After Dragon, more muscular, fire breathing and basically awesome. Boris knows that the way he is saving the Island is not the right way, as he hasn't turned into the After Dragon yet. Boris has no idea how to save the Island the right way, and believes that Aratuah would know since he was around when the last dragon Horatio came to save it.During this conversation, it is discovered that Boris cannot fly due to breaking his wing when Elmer saved him (They were chased by Saiwa's 2nd in command Kwan who threw a fire torch at them and ended up hitting Boris's wing, injuring him), and he reveals that he is afraid of both water and fire. The two make an agreement that Boris will help Elmer raise enough cash to buy a new store and will let the dragon go free once finished. Along the way, they encounter some of the islands inhabitants, like Cornelius the crocodile (Alan Cumming), the tiger siblings Sasha (Leighton Meester) and George (Spence Moore II) (The tigers want to eat Elmer, as he is soft and sweet. He only escapes by making them fight over a cinnamon flavored bubble gum) and a mother rhino named Iris (Dianne Wiest) (she fell into a trap with her baby rhino and wasn't able to climb out. Elmer fell into the same trap) all while trying to evade Saiwa and his monkey army. Elmer explains to Iris that he is taking Boris to Aratuah to find out how to save the Island for real. When Saiwa arrives, Iris helps hide Boris and Elmer and tells Saiwa that they went towards the summit if the Island.
As Boris and Elmer make their way to Aratuah, the island continues to sink gradually. Kwan almost captures Boris, but Saiwa makes him let go, as he wants Kwan to save the monkeys from the incoming sea. Saiwa tells Kwan that one day he will lead the monkeys, and he has to learn to not abandon them, ever. They still have time to capture the dragon and save the island.They soon make it to Aratuah's shell, but Elmer finds out that he died, and leave as the island continues to sink. While resting on a flower, they are found by Saiwa and his forces. When Boris tries to escapes, Saiwa captures him by his injured wing, fixing it inadvertently in the process. Boris flies away with Elmer. Saiwa reveals that he knew about Aratuah's death, which angers his macaque 2nd-in-command Kwan (Chris O'Dowd), who proceeds to use a giant mushroom as a raft to leave the island, convinced that it is hopeless to save. While flying with Boris, Elmer has an epiphany; it is the roots below the island that pull it down. He manages to convince Boris to fly with all his might and while Boris manages to free the island from two of the roots, he then realizes that this is still the wrong way to save the island. He knows he has to jump into the summit fire to save it. But Elmer is not convinced and keeps telling him not to. Boris pushes Elmer off, who falls off the Island and into the water.Elmer is saved by Saiwa, who reveals that he and the other animals are evacuating the island and berates Elmer for wanting to use Boris for his own merits. He then reveals that once he found out about Aratuah's death, he was frightened about making everyone more worried and was even more worried when Boris showed up to save the island but Saiwa was weary of his goofy personality, so he lied and said he knew how to control Boris. Wanting to fix things, Elmer goes back to the island where Boris tells him he has found a way to save it by jumping into the fire at the summit of the Island and eventually after a lot of encouragement from Elmer he jumps in, he bursts out and magically lifts the island from the sea, finally becoming an After Dragon.After telling the animals of the island how to always let future dragons know the right way to save it, Boris takes Elmer home, passing by a surprised Kwan residing over on tangerine trees. Elmer reunites with his mother and the film ends with him embracing his new life in the city with his daughter narrating the end of the story.

Two general phases in the life of Scotty Bowers are presented. The first, and arguably the most salacious, is the post-WWII era after the end of his military duty when he was working at a Richfield gas station in Los Angeles. Although he was already no stranger to the breadth of sexual activity in which humans can engage, his encounter with Walter Pidgeon at the gas station, he who invited Scotty up to his place "for a swim", led to Scotty's "career" as a sexual being for hire, as well as one procuring sexual favors between others, albeit never with a dime going into his own pocket for that latter service (i.e. he never having considered himself a pimp). At a time when the Hays code was in effect which led to the movie studios closely controlling at least the public lives and thus images of especially their stars, Scotty's services became known as trusted ones for Hollywood celebrities who wanted/needed a sexual outlet of any nature outside of a conventional husband/wife marriage. This part of Scotty's story focuses largely on the sexual needs of Hollywood A-listers who were straight to middle America, with, in many cases, their homosexual orientation the worst kept secret in Tinseltown. This part of Scotty's life was unknown to his current wife of over thirty years, Lois Bowers, until he recently published his book on the matter on which this documentary is based. The second is his current life in which he is peddling the aforementioned book and which he is living off many of the connections made during his years as a hustler, such as owning several houses given to him. It is arguably something about Scotty's current life as opposed to his years as a hustler and sexual procurer that concerns Lois more than anything about their marriage.—Huggo
