The film intercuts footage of Hemphill reciting his poetry, Riggs telling the story of his growing up, scenes of men in social intercourse and dance, and various comic riffs, including a visit to the "Institute of Snap!thology," where men take lessons in how to snap their fingers: the sling snap, the point snap, the diva snap. The film closes with obituaries for victims of AIDS and archival footage of the civil rights movement placed next to footage of Black men marching in a gay pride parade.—

Shawn Dickerson, an early thirties, rough around the edges street guy is accused of killing BRENDA SAWYER, a wealthy and prominent older lady, known for her compassion, and benevolence towards kids from the inner-cities. The final film by filmmaker Marlon Riggs, Black Is...Black Ain't, jumps into the middle of explosive debates over Black identity. Black Is...Black Ain't is a film every African American should see, ponder and discuss. White Americans have always stereotyped African Americans. But the rigid definitions of "Blackness" that African Americans impose on each other, Riggs claims, have also been devastating. Is there an essential Black identity? Is there a litmus test defining the real Black man and true Black woman? Riggs uses his grandmother's gumbo as a metaphor for the rich diversity of Black identities. His camera traverses the country, bringing us face to face with Black folks young and old, rich and poor, rural and urban, gay and straight, grappling with the paradox of numerous, often contested definitions of Blackness. Riggs mixes performances by choreographer Bill T. Jones and poet Essex Hemphill with commentary by noted cultural critics Angela Davis, Bell Hooks, Cornel West, Michele Wallace, Barbara Smith and Maulana Karenga to create a flavorful stew of personal testimony, music, and history.

Following his stateside return from Iraq, Jack Armstrong, a literal and figurative Jack-of-All-Trades in his civilian life, came down with an undiagnosed illness, he sent home from the hospital to the care of his wife, Lizzie Armstrong, in what were expected to be his final days. Instead, it was Lizzie who passed suddenly in a traffic accident, Jack miraculously fully recovering following. Jack has decided to take their two children, fifteen year old Mikki and young adolescent Cory, on what was Lizzie's planned family summer vacation to her hometown of Channing, it to be spent at what Lizzie had always considered her "palace", her parents' recreational property, a beachside cottage, now a rental, complete with a lighthouse. The fact that the three of them, upon their arrival, find that it is not the palace that Lizzie had described but a rundown property only exacerbates the issues with which they all are dealing beyond their general grief. Jack is struggling to be both father and mother to the kids, while needing to deal with Lizzie's mother, Bonnie O'Toole. While Jack and Bonnie never had the best of in-law relationships, they have the added issue of Bonnie's concerns for the children's welfare without their mother, she who has become overly protective in not wanting to lose any more children. Besides going through puberty, Mikki is constantly angry, largely directed at her father, more in her own unspoken fear that he will becomes sick again. In making the necessary repairs to the cottage, Jack decides to fix the non-functioning lighthouse in Lizzie's memory. In the process, Jack is guided by a visible manifestation only to him of Lizzie's spirit. The presence of that spirit may provide a complication as Jack seems to be making a connection with restaurateur Jenna Fontaine, who moved to Channing four years ago with her now mid-teen son, Liam, to escape a crumbling marriage, those connections which seem to be developing also at the next generation between Mikki and Liam.—Huggo

In the Forest of Okoya, the Mythical Pokémon Zarude (Edward Bosco) finds an infant boy in a cradle washed up on a riverbank. Unable to leave the child on his own, Zarude adopts him as a son, giving him the name "Koko" (Kimlinh Tran). Zarude leaves his tribe, which inhabits a Great Tree deep in the jungle where humans are forbidden to venture, to raise Koko who grows up as a feral child.Ten years later, Ash Ketchum (Sarah Natochenny) and Pikachu (Ikue Otani) visit the Forest of Okoya from nearby Milyfa Town. While attempting to capture a wild Cramorant, Ash and Pikachu encounter a research team from the Biotope Company, a scientific organization studying the jungle. Team Rocket (Jessie (Michele Knotz), James (James Carter Cathcart) and Meowth (James Carter Cathcart)), covertly following them, look up information on the Biotope Company and its leader Dr. Zed (Billy Kametz), and decide to infiltrate the group. Sharon (Michelle Ruff) is a researcher on Zed's team. Zed is looking for a spring, whose waters are rumored to contain healing powers.
Koko care for the Pokemons of the jungle and uses the spring at the giant tree to heal them (when they get injured), even though the other Zarude attack him for approaching their territory, from which he and his father are banned.Later, Ash sees Koko go over a waterfall, after he got knocked out from a pipe while swinging on a vine with a wild Skwovet, and retrieves him from the water, bringing him to Milyfa Town's Pokémon Center for treatment. When Koko awakens, he becomes alarmed and escapes the building, having never seen other humans before. Discovering that Koko believes himself to be a Pokémon, Ash and Pikachu spend time with him in the town, helping him to learn about humans for the first time.Ash, Pikachu and Koko later encounter Zarude, who is forced to admit the truth about Koko's heritage. Zarude brings them to an abandoned laboratory he found shortly after adopting Koko, where he shows them a photograph he found of an infant Koko with his human parents. Zarude then leaves, returning to the Great Tree alone. Zarude remembers how he showed Koko how the Zarude could ask for help from the jungle and the jungle answers.Discovering a wallet from Biotope Company at the abandoned laboratory, Ash brings Koko to their headquarters, where they meet with Dr. Zed. He reveals that Koko's parents are Chrom and Phossa Molybden, a pair of scientists who led the organization in researching the healing springs, and that Koko's real name is Al Molybden. However, Chrom and Phossa were killed in a car accident ten years ago, which was presumed to have killed Al as well. Dr. Zed scans Koko's pendant and discovers partially corrupted data on it that reveals an image of the Great Tree. Distraught over the news of his parents' fate, Koko flees to the Great Tree as well.As soon as he reaches the Great Tree, Koko discovers a tracking chip planted on him by Dr. Zed. Zed arrives with his research team, which Team Rocket have infiltrated, along with a giant, spider-like tank. Koko and Ash try to stop Zed's actions, but he restrains them using his Ariados and throws them into the back of one of his trucks. He then fires missiles at the Great Tree, blasting open holes from which the spring water gushes forth. Ash, Pikachu and Koko escape with unwitting help from Team Rocket as they wrestle with the Cramorant from earlier and confront Dr. Zed, who suffers a psychotic breakdown and admits that, when Chrom and Phossa Molybden discovered the Great Tree's location but refused to continue researching it out of respect for the Zarude tribe, he killed the couple by running them off a road and stealing their supply of the spring water before leaving them to die in the explosion of their wrecked car. Before they perished, Chrom and Phossa sent the infant Al down the river with a drive containing the rest of their research, leading to Zarude finding him.Dr. Zed seizes control of the tank from his henchmen, and Ash, Pikachu and Koko try to fight him to no avail. Zarude's tribe arrives, having been convinced to help save the jungle by Zarude who raised Koko. Koko's father figure also brings a group of wild Pokémon, who previously disliked his tribe due to their selfish behavior, to assist. Zarude is injured in the battle and nearly succumbs, but Koko manages to harness the power of the jungle as if he were indeed a Pokémon, healing him. With all their combined forces, they manage to break the tank's power source, disabling it. Zed attempts to escape but is captured by Koko.In the aftermath, the humans and Pokémon work together to restore the damage done to the jungle. Dr. Zed is arrested for his crimes and is loaded into a police van by Officer Jenny, based on evidence leaked by Team Rocket. Koko decides to leave to explore the human world and become the bridge between humans and Pokémon, taking the photograph of his parents along with him. As he and Ash leave the Forest of Okoya, they see Zarude turn the healing springs into a geyser to send Koko off. Cheered up by this, Koko goes forth into his future, embracing his dual identity as a Zarude and a human. At the Great Tree, Zarude who raised Koko sees a Shiny Celebi, which observes Zarude now living in harmony with the other Pokémon.
